Courage, determination, bravery, sheer effort, absolute resolve, endurance through severe hardship, focus, magnanimous thinking, standing up to adversity to do ‘the right thing’, intense training and study, desire to push barriers of human & technical endeavour, vital support by loved ones & sometimes just being in that specific place during ‘their time’ in our history.
Having apparently survived prolonged exposure to the ‘real’ world; Odyssey Artists are developing a sense of their own adequacy. In striving for acceptable levels of accomplishment, they have repeatedly encountered the idea of ‘perfection’: that state beyond the reach of criticism. In this exhibition they explore how much more interesting, diverse and humane that which is deemed other than perfect can be.
Gloucestershire is well renowned for its rich history, heritage and culture this exhibition emphasis communication of knowledge and life experience between older participants, community groups and young people in a creative and artistic visual display.
Janice Lyall and Luba Arnold ask the question, for them, the journey is about discovering subjects that inspire, delving deeper to define and capture a simplified ‘essence’ and to develop it in ways to describe something about what they feel, but ‘What is Art to you?’
