Volunteer Opportunity: Support our Art & Language Café

We’re looking for confident, female-identifying English speakers to support our new Language Café at Gloucester Guildhall.

This welcoming, relaxed space gives women the opportunity to practise their English through conversation, creative activities, and social time over tea and biscuits. Sessions include simple activities such as art-making, embroidery, and crafts, creating a supportive environment where participants can connect and build confidence together.

The café is a women-only space and includes a small children’s play area with low-key activities such as colouring. 

As a volunteer, you will:

• Start conversations and engage warmly with participants
• Offer informal language support and encouragement
• Take part in creative activities and offer help where needed
• Support and monitor the children’s play area

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who is:

• Friendly, patient, and respectful, with a positive and open approach to meeting people from different backgrounds
• Confident in spoken English and happy to chat and support others
• Open-minded, culturally sensitive, and tolerant of different cultures, experiences, and perspectives#
• Other language skills are desirable but not essential
• No previous teaching or language support experience is needed - enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to get involved are what matter most. 

We ask for a commitment of at least 4 sessions per half-year period.
