Turning Red (PG)

  • Gloucester Guildhall 23 Eastgate Street Gloucester UK (map)

96 mins

Dir: Domee Shi | USA | 2022

Voice cast | Rosalie Chiang, Sandra Oh, Ava Morse, Hyein Park, James Hong

Dorky, confident 13-year-old Mei (Rosalie Chang) is torn between remaining her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence in Disney and Pixar’s sweet, funny Turning Red, from the creators of Inside Out and The Incredibles and directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Domee Shi (Bao).

Mei’s protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming (Sandra Oh), is never far from her daughter’s side – an unfortunate reality for Mei, who longs for independence. But if changes to her interests, relationships and body weren’t enough, her whole world changes when she finds that getting too excited (for Mei, practically ALWAYS) now sees her go ‘poof’... into a giant red panda.

Beautifully animated, Turning Red is a funny, sweet and really evocative portrait of puberty and teen rebellion drawn with warmth and charm.
