Misericordia (15)
Dir: Alain Guiraudie | France, Spain, Portugal | 2024 | 104 mins | Subtitled
Cast | Félix Kysyl, Catherine Frot
French provocateur Alain Guiraudie returns with a rural homecoming fable mixing passion, crime, farce and… mushrooms, to dizzying effect.
Guiraudie’s diverse films (including Stranger by the Lake, Nobody’s Hero and No Rest for the Brave) always show his flair for witty provocation and a fascination with the untamable nature of desire. In the weird, earthy, wildly entertaining Misericordia, a young man returns to his childhood village for a funeral, setting off a chain of intrigue involving a jealous son, some intrusive police and a priest with an unorthodox take on transgression.
