Hot Milk (15)

  • Gloucester Guildhall 23 Eastgate Street Gloucester United Kingdom (map)

Dir: Rebecca Lenkiewicz | UK, Greece | 2024 | 92 mins

Cast | Emma Mackey, Fiona Shaw, Vicky Krieps, Vincent Perez

Based on the acclaimed 2016 novel by Deborah Levy and with a terrific cast led by Fiona Shaw (Ammonite), Emma Mackey (Emma) and Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread), Hot Milk is the directorial debut of award-winning screenwriter Rebecca Lenkiewicz (Disobedience, Ida).

Set in a scorching summer, it sees Rose (Shaw) and her daughter Sofia (Mackey) travel to Almería in Spain in hopes of finding a cure for Rose’s unexplained paralysis. In the sun-drenched town, Sofia begins to shed her inhibitions as she befriends a free-spirited traveller (Krieps), but her increased freedom becomes too much for her controlling mother – threatening to tear the fragile threads between them apart. A story of liberation and longing, self-discovery and desire.
