Restless (15)
Dir: Jed Hart | UK | 2024 | 89 mins
Cast | Lyndsey Marshal, Aston McAuley, Barry Ward, Kate Robbins
A care worker’s life is turned upside down by a hard partying neighbour in Jed Hart’s shapeshifting suburban revenge feature. Moving from kitchen sink drama to siege thriller to joyful feminist parable, Restless charts a surprising turn in the life of Nicky (Lynsey Marshal).
When she’s not working long hours at an understaffed nursing home, Nicky lives in a semi-detached house with her cat Reg, treating herself to nights in with cakes and TV. An empty nester whose parents recently died, she’s a loner slipping prematurely into her own old age. But all this will change when Deano (Aston McCauley), an antisocial 30-something hedonist, moves into the house next door – bringing with him masculine menace and an earth-shatteringly loud soundtrack. In response, our heroine discovers that she’s not, after all, quite ready for the grave – at least, her own.
